Meet Matt

I’m a true believer in Louisville.

I have lived most of my life along the US 42 corridor. I was born in a house in the Reidlonn Neighborhood right off Zorn Avenue. I went to Dunn Elementary for my first grade. I grew up near Rose Island Road and across the county line in Oldham County. I bagged groceries in the Kroger at Holiday Manor when I was a kid. My dad taught me to drive his pickup at Cox’s Park. So when I wanted to have a family of my own, I wanted them to live here, in Louisville, in the area where I was born and raised, have built a career, and served the Louisville community.

I’m lucky enough to be doing that right now. My wife, Micah, and our three kids—two identical 11-year-old twin girls and a 7-year-old little guy—live in a happy house around our friends and neighbors in the place I call home.

I graduated from the University of Kentucky and from the University of Louisville School of Law (I’m a Cardinal fan, even when it hurts). I am proud to have been educated in Kentucky by our Kentucky teachers.

I have practiced law for more than 27 years. I started as a clerk at the Jefferson County Attorney’s Office while I was still in law school. When I graduated, they hired me as a prosecutor. I worked my way up the ladder, doing everything from general crime, vice and DUI prosecutions, to managing the tax department and the civil division before retiring as the First Assistant County Attorney—the highest appointed position in the elected office. It is probably an old way to look at the world, but I still believe that hard work carries you places.

Soon after I retired from the JCAO, I was called back to serve the city at TARC as their Interim General Counsel during a moment of intense crisis for our city’s public transportation system. I then went on to serve Louisville again, and was appointed Chief of Public Services overseeing the Fire Department, EMS, MetroSafe, the Department of Corrections and other agencies of Louisville Metro Government. Over the years, I have had many contacts with Metro Council and look forward to the opportunity to serve.

I have maintained a private practice as well, looking out for clients who had need. I am very proud to have recovered six figures from a mortgage company for fraud against my client and millions for an injury case against a trucking company. I am very happy to continue helping clients. I was also recently named the General Counsel and Community Relations Director for the Jewish Community of Louisville, Inc.

Everywhere I have worked, I gave it my all; I never left anything on the table. I’ll also admit I’ve been very fortunate along this path to work with wonderful people through troublesome times. I have tremendous faith that what we do together as friends, neighbors, and as a City really matters.

I would be honored to continue that work for you and look forward to earning your vote.

Our Community's Golden Opportunity

I want the same things for our community and my family that most people want: to be safe, to be healthy, and to know that someone out there is fighting for us.

As your Metro Council Member, I’ll fight every day for a safer, healthier, vibrant, thriving, and caring community for all families across District 16.

I want to make our streets and sidewalks safer for all our kids. I want you to sleep well at night knowing our firefighters, EMS workers, police and corrections officers are paid, trained and well-supported, keeping the crime and danger out of our backyards.

We are home to some of the nicest and friendliest neighborhoods in Louisville. We’re surrounded by parks, greenspaces and waterways. We must support and preserve our neighbors and neighborhoods in new ways while not forgetting the character that makes us who we are.

Through our local government, we invest millions and millions of dollars in public health. From issues impacting our seniors’ health, to women’s health initiatives and freedoms, to our children’s healthy future, we should expect a return on our investment in a healthier Louisville.

We are the only District in Louisville with churches, a mosque and a synagogue living side by side. All of our traditions support care for the community. We need to value our faith-based communities’ wisdom and contributions to make things better; connecting with each other as neighbors and friends.

People are building and rebuilding all around us. More building permits are issued in our area than in almost any other in Louisville. When development and growth is proposed, we need it done wisely, maintaining the wonderful nature of our neighborhoods and tackling traffic before it tackles us.
